Meet Your Practitioner, Part 4
Jennifer Jackson – EFT Practitioner
Hello, my name is Jennifer Jackson and I am Internal Wisdom’s EFT practitioner. Up until several years ago, I would have described myself as a stressed and anxious person. This showed up most noticeably in my sleep.
In high school getting into a top college felt extremely important. When I started seriously looking into the requirements for these schools, I put tremendous pressure on myself to measure up to them. Right around that time, I started having sleeping issues.
Also around that time I was given a book called “Creative Visualization” by Shakti Gawain. I remember feeling a strong resonance deep within when reading it. I also remember feeling my life was the opposite of hers – one of deep relaxation, strong self-esteem, and positive outlooks. A big part of me wanted to pursue this kind of life, but it seemed so far away and remote. I didn’t have the foggiest idea of how to even start. College was the only option presented by my parents and I was on the Ivy League Path.
I did get my wish and got into Yale. I loved it, but the environment did NOT help my tendencies toward stress, anxiety, and most of all, insomnia.
For the next 25 years I constantly looked for someone or something that would simply make my sleep issues go away. I tried everything ranging from warm milk to prescription sleeping pills, but nothing solved my problem because none of these remedies got to the root of my issues.
So what finally helped me find relief?
During the recession I had a rough time. I lost the job I thought I would have forever, my husband and I lost our house, and for a short time it looked like we might even lose our marriage. For six months I got almost no sleep. Just when I was at my wit’s end, I was introduced to some mind-body techniques that finally got me to the other side of my sleeping issues.
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques and is probably best known as “Tapping,” because it literally involves tapping on the same meridian points used in acupuncture. It works holistically to reduce the physical symptoms of stress and rewire the brain to release old patterns of thought and behavior.
EFT helped me so much I quickly became certified and started my own practice. I work with clients who are ready to make big changes in their lives. This might look like releasing a dis-empowering behavior such as emotional eating or smoking, overcoming a fear or phobia, or getting to the roots of ongoing problems such as insomnia, anxiety, or chronic pain.
Often clients come during times of emotional upheaval when change is being thrust upon them, and they are open to and hungry for personal growth and transformation. I see my role as a compassionate guide, lighting up the path ahead and gently helping people disentangle from the thorns and brambles of old memories, beliefs, habits and thought patterns that have kept them stuck for months, years or decades. I am grateful to have such a beautiful space at Internal Wisdom to help clients achieve their goals and dreams.
I still have my original copy of “Creative Visualization” and now realize the seeds that were planted back then finally blossomed into the life that I desired so many years ago.
